3...2...1... 3toLive!® launch

It’s finally here, High School Youth Ministry, which at Saint Lawrence the Martyr will be known as 3toLive!® Our first meeting will be Sunday, April 20th, immediately following the 6:00 PM Mass in the Community Center.

Why 3toLive!®, you may ask? Each of the Youth & Young Adult Ministries is designed to build on each other. In Junior High Youth Ministry, the F.O.R.C.E., we hope that teens come to realize as their lives become more complex, it is by Following Our Risen Christ Everyday that we can find ourselves and our path. Having an idea of that, in High School, while following our risen Christ, we come to learn the strength of the threes in our lives, The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, and our family, our friends, and our community. It takes 3toLive!®

The purpose of ministry, especially Youth & Young Adult Ministry, is to bring our faith and our gifts together in community. It is how we, especially teens, can explore who we are as people, in the context of our faith, and how we fit into our community.

Having said that, 3toLive!® is Youth Ministry, not Youth Group. In the context of the parish, that mean gathering of the young Church of today with and among the broader community. This means participation in other ministries such as Liturgical Ministries, Social Concerns Committee, even the Parish Pastoral Council at some point. This also means that Youth Ministry needs the parish’s support and participation for Youth Ministry to survive. We need Adult and Young Adults who are willing to be Catechists, Chaperone Ministers, Mentors, Support Services Ministers, and of course advocates.

Among the activities we have already started as 3toLive!® are planning and sign-ups for the Diocesan Tahoe retreat and forming a leadership team.

3toLive!® is open to teens who are in High School. Teens can bring friends as long as those friends are also in High School. Teens do not have to be parishioners, Catholic, or Christian. They just have to have an open mind, be willing to share, and be open to self-discovery.

If you are a High School teen or have one at home and have any questions feel free to come to our first meeting. We do ask that teens attending the meetings make an effort to attend the 6:00 PM Mass before our 3toLive!® meetings begin.

If you have any questions, concerns, would just like to talk, or would like to give your time in ministry to our Youth, feel free to contact Bruno Martínez, Director of Youth & Young Adult Ministry, at 408.869.8254, check out our blog: http://3tolive.blogspot.com/ or email at bmartinez@sbcglobal.net.

Tahoe 2008: Quest for the Hidden Treasure

Every summer, for the past twelve years, the Diocese of San José’s Office of Youth and Young Adult Ministry has held a Diocesan Youth retreat in Lake Tahoe. This summer will be the thirteenth Tahoe retreat, and its theme is: Quest for the Hidden Treasure, and will be held June 16th through June 20th.

During this retreat, hundreds of Youth from parishes all over the Diocese gather together at Zephyr Cove in Lake Tahoe for Catholic Christian fellowship, to give praise, thanks, and worship God, to see the many ways we have to express our faith, and to see that their Catholic faith truly is universal.

High points of the retreat are sunset Masses, music, plays, spending time with other teens, and of course seeing the true face of the Young Church of the Diocese of San José. There are games, time at the beach, more food than you could possible imagine, time to meet new people, and teens will even get a t-shirt to remember their time in Tahoe.

This year, our very own, 3toLive!®, High School Youth Ministry will be taking part in this celebration of our Young Church. If you are or have a teen who is interested in going on this retreat there will be two information meeting, Tuesday, March 18th at 7:00 PM in the Middle School’s Teen Center and Saturday, March 22nd, at 1:00 PM in the Parish Hall.

This retreat is open to current 8th through 12th graders from both public and private schools. Space is limited and is first come, first serve. Our deadline for reserving your spot on this retreat trip is Sunday, March 30th.

This trip will leave you with memories of a lifetime. For more information please come to our information sessions or contact me, Bruno Martínez at 408.869.8254 or bmartinez@saintlawrence.org.
